PROCESS FROM DAY ONE – Lady Asparagus
When an artist comes to us with a vision, an idea that is unique, yet not quite created or thought through, our in-house artist will help visualize the concept in a desired shape and form.
This concept came to us from a well-established writer and an artist, someone who was simply looking for assistance in bringing his vision to life.
– Meet Lady Asparagus.
DESIGN
~ Bring your ideas to us, and you will not be disappointed with what you see.
Our artists will spend as much time as needed to ensure your design is fully enhanced and is as detailed as your vision. There is no good or bad, there is only freedom of creativity and collaboration. Several prototypes are provided for detailed review prior to final changes being made. The artists are always invited for inputs and any necessary feedback throughout the design process, as well. Our skilled specialists can work with clay, wax, wood, or on a computer using digital software to create that one unique piece of art you are eager to bring to life.
3D SCANNING & DIGITAL ENLARGEMENT
Once the piece has been finalized and approval for enlargement and fabrication is received, our team will 3D scan the original sculpture to allow detailed work and computer enlargement for farther fabrication using foam or wood.
While our engineers check the tolerances and details needed to guarantee a successful installation of the enlarged piece, our CNC Programmer will work on the 3D scanned piece to enlarge and prepare the sculpture for the router. A piece will then be fabricated in the desired final size and scale.
CNC ROUTER & FOAM ENLARGEMENT
Often used for the mold making and bronze casting process, blue foam is glued up for CNC Production. Our skilled CNC operator will run the program on the machinery to achieve the desired size and shapes to form the final product in the end.
After any separated pieces are put together, an enlarged form will be worked on through application of clay to allow the sculpture reveal all the necessary details. At this stage, the enlarged form is compared to the original piece, which is when our artists are able to bring back every lost detail and achieve a complete and precise look. The sculpture is then presented for another review and the original artist is invited to make final touches.
BRONZE CASTING
Once the sculpture is finalized, the bronze casting process begins.
The first step is mold making. Multiple molds of the enlarged sculpture are created using several thin layers of high quality silicon rubber and a fiberglass or plaster case.
Next, hot liquid casting wax is poured inside each of the rubber mold. Once cooled off, the molds are taken apart to reveal a wax replica of the original sculpture.
A network of wax rods and cups are then attached to the wax positive of every piece in preparation for the ceramic shell process.
Make sure to read about the complete and detailed lost wax bronze casting process.
ENLARGED SCULPTURE ASSEMBLY
Depending on the overall scale of the final sculpture, up to a hundred bronze pieces may require word and re-assembly. Our expert welder takes over the bronze part as he works closely with the initial designer and engineer to ensure a precise assembly and reliable structure.
The final finishing of the sculpture is accomplished with the help of pneumatic and electrical rotary tools. Welding rods are used to weld any seams, imperfections, or additions on the finished sculpture.
PATINA
After final polishing, corrosive materials are applied to form a patina, a process that allows control over the color and finish. Our talented patina artists can offer a wide variety of choices and unique colors to satisfy your needs, as an artist.
INSTALLATION
Our all in one service option includes a complete assembly and installation of a sculpture on site. Whether it is Wall Street or a Private Residence, our crew will make all the necessary plans and provide all the needed equipment and expertise to complete successful installation.
